Books 05:05
I’ll rest in the shadow of my given name Confession: I’ve come to call the ghost again You’ll hide in the verses that I couldn’t write Reflected shallow in the poet’s tide In all the words he couldn’t rhyme This song will break The masochist who lives behind the moon You are mistaken Once I’m old I’m just as good as new We sleep, our hands tied up in paper sleeves God reads the words that have become of me The books that he has made of me But we are just his poetry This song will break The masochist who lives inside of you You are mistaken The truth has only disappointed you They made a holiday held in your name Bloodstained our ancestors are all the same And that’s our only claim to fame This song will name The masochist who lives behind the moon This song will claim The books that I have read and bled for you This song will shame you - The masochist who lives behind the moon How can I blame you I’ve only ever disappointed you

Pilgrims 04:17
Shameless I stole this song from you I am the knife The martyr has left for you Shameless I took to notice you I dedicate this Walk to the death to you And one page Reads of the fight for you - A masterpiece fallout I knew was inside of you You are one speed slow down I can’t help but race the fool You are one speed slow down I can’t help but race the fool And you’re a fool I am shameless This ain’t my song to take I am the rope The tied to the pilgrims legs Shameless They hang my type ‘round here I’ve got a mansion Filled to the brim with tears We are one speed, let’s slow down I can’t help but race the fool You are one speed slow down I can’t help but race the fool And you’re a fool And I am shameless I stole this song from you I am a pilgrim Running out of the truth

It’s over, little brother All your life lines through the afternoon Did she say they were long enough To withstand every Sunday too? It was almost my little brother Who’s life lies in the afternoon I’ll wrap him up in my footnotes And real quickly Did she say you made it through? It’s over for Oklahoma Did they say somebody made it through We’d better make plans up for the earthquake And real quickly I know just what I’d do I would write a thousand songs for you I would write a thousand songs for you See I could die and you would not know why

Me & Jenny 02:52
Stick figure nine o’clock news coverage Couldn’t make me feel Any better Six figure well above average Couldn’t make me feel Any better When Jenny says You’re too much older than me And haircuts don’t talk When you wear your heart on your sleeves Like me and Jenny Dear God What’s happened here God Can we blame it on Rainy weather Oh God Here come the Sun Gods Can they make me get Any wetter When Jenny says You’re so much better than me But fashion don’t talk When you wear your heart out on your sleeves Like me and Jenny Thank God we Rest in pieces with our Roses down, down, down, down Save your speeches For me and Jenny

Joe 04:40
I, I got an accent Right between my cheeks Colorado made them red and then Alabama made them weak You’ve got this stranger Right behind your gun Iowa made him dangerous Boy, you’d better run Cause we’ll make it across Kansas On a low tank of gas for Kansas Joe Joe Joe I guess I missed your birthday after all Joe Joe Joe I fell asleep out in the hall You and I used to walk the railroads Right behind our homes homes homes Should’ve shut up Shut up Should’ve should’ve kept my mouth shut up Shut up, shut up So they’d had never known That we’ll make it across Kansas With our thumbs in the air for Kansas But Joe, Joe, Joe I guess I missed your birthday after all Joe, Joe, Joe I fell asleep out in the hall Joe don’t know, Joe don’t know Joe don’t know, Joe don’t know I really loved him in the fall

Ashes 05:59
I’ve made a mountain out of men And hope that I’ll get back again He pulled my salts into the sea And there was nothing left of me But ashes I had fun in summer sun Golden days that kept us young I could take you into fall Or be a name that you recall So cull the kites and string the stars Let the light fall into darkness Shadows long and fabric laid Flying in a still parade Of ashes You walked in one summer’s night You pulled the curtains from my sight Don’t let me be your regret Or just a name that you forget Don’t ask I’m so blessed To look at you this way I guess That I wrote this song Hoping you would say I hope you’ll say You’ll make a mountain out of me Pull the salt out of the sea If that’s far to much to ask At least fresh water tears and ashes Ashes ashes dust to dust We could crash and burn and rust If I stay collecting dust Bury me in burning lust And ashes, ashes I’ve made a mountain out of you In every corner of my room Fallen kites and distant stars Salt stained tears in beach glass jars Ashes

Waterproof 04:04
I have no secrets now You were my last I stirred the sea up And sailed right past Come kiss my hair blonde with sunlight Come taste the last of these cold white lies Am I waterproof now Waterpoof now I can't drown you out Does that make me waterproof? My waterproof friends Say it doesn't make sense To keep diving in to be waterproof You are so faithful Remembering how I tore your pride As I reeled you in Come kiss my cheeks red with laughter Come read the cards for the morning after Am I waterproof now Waterpoof now I can't drown you out Does that make me waterproof? All my waterproof friends Say it doesn't make sense To keep diving in  Does that make me waterproof Waterproof, waterproof Come kiss my hair blonde in sunlight

Oh paper crane What are you doing here Count my dead goldfish And all of my empty beers I cannot cry no more I did too much last year What are you doing here And he said girl let’s go seeing stars And he said look girl that one is ours But instead of just one moonbeam We’ll take two ‘Cause I can’t bare share the light with you What are you doing here? Down on one knee What are you doing there Let’s go get married An spend our life somewhere Your mom will miss you But I could hardly care What are you doing there And he said girl let’s go seeing stars And there used to be real life on Mars I bet it was a lot like ours ‘Til they all died off from broken hearts What are you doing there Another sad song What did you come here for I heard it’s healthy To cry a little more You sing it with me And we can mop the floor What did you come here for And he said girl let’s go seeing stars And there used to be real life on Mars I bet it was a lot like ours ‘Til they all died of from broken hearts From broken hearts, from broken hearts You broke my heart What are you doing here

about

Singer- songwriter Scout MacKay has since lived in small towns and cities across the US, which she recalls in her song "Joe" from her album Paper Sleeves, recently released on February 1st.

At an early age, she fell deeply in love with music, particularly the craft of story-telling with lyrics. When she was sixteen, she moved to Maine to attend Watershed School. Through her schoolmates, she met trumpet player Mike Whitehead. The two started performing together, and formed a four-piece indie-rock band, "Sage for Someone", in 2007.

MacKay has since moved to Seattle to pursue a career in songwriting, but last October she returned to Maine to record an album with her former band-mates Mike Whitehead and drummer Jason Dean. Pianist Tom Luther soon joined the project, as well as acclaimed percussionist Jeff Densmore.

Paper Sleeves draws from a surprising array of genres, and each song presents itself anew with well-crafted lyrics, haunting vocals, and creative instrumentation. It was recorded by Whitehead in his studio in Thomaston, Maine, in a twelve - day whirlwind of the collaboration of excellent musicianship.
